It’s during the challenges in life when substantial growth occurs.
That’s because when we are challenged, we try to find a solution, or a better feeling, or an escape, to make us feel less pain. Let’s look at how we traditionally did this:
Let’s say a relationship just ended. It wasn’t your choice. We’ve all been there.
You feel like shit, and so you do one (or all) of the following:
You try to find a solution: “What can I do to get him back?”
You try to find a better feeling: “I’m going to the beach to be with water.”
You look for an escape: “Oh, she’s hot. Maybe I’ll date her.”
With each of those options, we went within to find a diversion for the pain. Any of these choices would give us the chance to further define who we are. And in the past, we probably didn’t go within too often unless there was a pressing reason to, because we were too busy attending to the physical world outside of us.
What if you made conscious choices about Who You Are even when there’s no shitstorm occurring in your life? When everything is going well? You could view your present circumstances, be thankful that all is going well, and fine tune your growth from that vantage point.
Today, whether you’re having a bad day or a great day, make choices that further define who you want to be, and know that you are growing all the time; being conscious about your path no matter what is happening on the outside is the key.
